Tamsin Mafi

B.SC, Dip.Physio, Dip.MT

I have been actively working as a physiotherapist for over 30 years now. 16 of these were at Linton Military Camp most of which were based in the rehabilitation gym. I joined the NZ Army as a reserve officer in 2010 and have been the NZDF men’s rugby team physiotherapist for over 12years now. This has involved travelling internationally for the last 3 Military World Cups.

Although I have extensive experience with sports and military type injuries, my work in the clinic remains general. I love to treat any type of injury.

Due to the common presentation of shoulder injuries, the team and I have attended numerous post grad courses and workshops and have developed some effective treatment and rehabilitation strategies as a result.

I also provide treatment for the concussion service.

I have post grad qualifications in manipulative therapy and have training in concussion, dry needling, women’s health, mulligan techniques, exercise prescription and rehabilitation to name a few.

Before studying physiotherapy I gained a degree in Mathematics and Psychology.

I am passionate about helping my patients get their life back on track.

Within my 10 years of experience, I have treated a lot of different injuries/conditions; from standard strains and strains, extending through to post-surgical rehabilitation, multi-trauma injuries, chronic pain, vertigo, and concussion/whiplash.

If it affects your movement, I’ve probably got some ideas that can help!.

I’m a physio with a love for movement – whether it’s helping people stay active or chasing a cricket ball.

Originally from Pakistan, I’m now in my second year as a physio in New Zealand, with eight years in MSK. I also bring a background of first aid, having worked with Pakistan Red Crescent and ICRC, where I trained communities and lead a team of responders.

When I’m not in the clinic, I’m talking food, debating cricket, or hitting the road just to see where it leads – because I believe the best moments are always the unplanned ones.

Our off-site Therapists are:

Gemma Fisher

I graduated from Manchester University with a BSc with Hon in 2003. I worked in a large UK hospital for 5 years gaining experience through many specialties. These included Respiratory, Palliative, on-call work, Cardiac, Rehab, Amputee, Paediatrics, Mental Health and Musculoskeletal. On arriving in NZ in 2009 I was based with the NZDF at Linton military camp where I treated mainly MSK injuries and gained valuable experience in Rehabilitation enabling soldiers to return to their full duties.
Following my maternity leave and becoming a mum to two beautiful girls, I am now working more in a community role providing both a service for the Youth Prison and also an onsite physio service to the Regional Distribution Centre which includes Pre Employment and workplace assessments. I also provide sick and holiday cover here in the clinic to the Kauri Physio team.

Joy Vanderpoel

BSc, BPhysEd, DipTchg, DipPhysio, PGDipMT, PGDipSportsMed, PGCertRehab

Most of my career has been working with Military populations, developing a strong focus on the rehabilitation required to return soldiers to optimum function. Over the past 2 years I have changed my focus to optimizing patients’ return to work under the ACC Stay At Work and Back To Work contracts. The research shows clear benefits to the individual, the employer and to society of returning the injured worker to the workplace as soon as safe to do so. Rehabilitation is a key focus of this process and Kauri Physio is able to provide a home exercise programme, gym or pool based programme depending on the individual needs.
